Long Term Care Resources |
|
WelcomeWe are currently in the process of a major site re-design and content updates. As you proceed through the site, you may come across pages yet to be coded with the new look and feel - please bear with me; I am working daily to complete this major project which consist of about 2500 pages and growing. We are celebrating our tenth year of providing information as a public service and sincerely enjoy doing so. Feedback is always appreciated; Let me know what you think - email me Locating a quality nursing home has always been a challenge. Where is a nursing home in my area anyway? Do they accept Medicare or Medicaid patients? What is an Advance Directive and why does dad need one? Okay, mom doesn't have a power of attorney for health care and can not make decisions on her own. She has four adult family members and none can agree on her treatment options and care - who has the authority to step in and make the decisions? How in the world are we going to pay for long term care? This site was developed by Edward D. Haton, B.S., LNHA, in an attempt to provide answers to those and many other commonly asked questions about long term care. However, with the exception of the specifics regarding reimbursement rates in state-run Medicaid programs (a jointly-funded federal/state program), most of the information provided is generally accepted practice throughout the United States. If a facility participates in the Medicare and/or Medicaid programs ( most do ), many of the concepts discussed are required as a "condition of participation" in those federally-funded programs. This site does not provide legal advice but merely attempts to make you aware of the many areas of concern surrounding any decision about long term care for yourself or a loved one. The information regarding licensed healthcare providers was compiled from resources made available to the public by the various state departments of public health. You will have access to many of the listed organizations by a direct link to their website. If you are associated with a nursing home and your facility has a web site, send the website address ( URL ) by e-mail to add my link and I will provide a direct link to your site - it's absolutely free. So,
Forget about all those telephone calls, the frustration of having someone on the other end of the line attempting to explain all the nuances of Medicare & Medicaid, the difference between a power-of-attorney for healthcare and a living will. If you need information about nursing homes and other resources available to the elderly, you'll want to begin your search here. A personal visit is always recommended, but make that visit armed with information. In this first phase, we are developing a directory of every licensed nursing facility in the United States. If the facility has an operating web page or valid e-mail, we will link you directly to them. Unlike many directories out there, facilities are listed simply because they are licensed to operate as a nursing home. A facility does not have to belong to a specific association or pay a fee to be listed. "Information for the public..." This site's only purpose. Soon, we will expand our listings to further meet your needs. You can help. Have a look around let me know if your questions were answered, what needed more explanation and what you would like to see added in the future. Please visit my contact page - there you may comment on the site, ask other questions. Thank you for visiting. |
